Tech Council Honors Companies
Michael Stalbaum named "CEO under 40" at the Eastern Technology Council's 12th annual Enterprise Awards dinner.
Carol Ammon, the founder, chairman and CEO of Chadds Ford, Pa.-based Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., received the CEO of the Year award Thursday night at the Eastern Technology Council's 12th annual Enterprise Awards dinner.
Ammon created Endo in a management buy-out from DuPont Merck in 1997, along with two other executives, Mariann MacDonald and Louis Vollmer.
Endo has grown from 25 people and revenue of $108.4 million in 1998, its first full year of operations, to approximately 550 employees and a projected $600 million in net sales this year. It is a fully integrated specialty pharmaceutical company best known for its pain killers, which include Percocet, Lidoderm, Percodan, and Zydone.
Cephalon Inc. of West Chester, Pa., received the Company of the Year award. Cephalon is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development, and marketing of innovative products to treat sleep and neurological disorders, cancer, and pain. It employs 2,200 people in the United States and Europe.
Gestalt LLC, which has offices in Camden, N.J., and King of Prussia, Pa., was named Start Up Company of the Year. It's an information-technology firm that specializes in interoperation, simulation, and decision-support technologies, and primarily serves the defense and utility sectors.
Bio-Imaging Technologies Inc. of Newtown, Pa., was named Technology Growth Company of the Year. It provides medical imaging management services that support the product development and regulatory approval process of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical-device companies.
Barrier Therapeutics Inc. of Princeton, N.J., received the Life Sciences Achievement award. It's a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of pharmaceutical products that treat diseases of the skin.
InterDigital Communications Inc. of King of Prussia received the Applied Technology award. It develops technologies used in wireless voice and data communications.
Michael Stalbaum was named CEO Under Age 40. He heads Unreal Marketing Solutions Inc., a full-service interactive marketing and advertising agency based in Narberth, Pa.
Ira Lubert received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lubert founded Independence Capital Partners, a Philadelphia based family of four private equity firms that combined have $3.3 billion under management.
